Day 3: Hot Water, Reimagined
By Matthew Hofmann, Founder & Architect, Living Vehicle
There’s a kind of quiet comfort that only shows up when every system works together—and you don’t have to think about them at all.
You arrive at camp after a dusty trail run, bike ride, or a long drive, step into the shower, and turn the handle. Within seconds, hot water wraps around you—no sputtering, no fiddling with knobs. It’s a generous rainfall experience, full-bodied and smooth—not the pin-prick, high-pressure setup common in RV showers. It feels indulgent, like being in a boutique hotel suite—except you’re parked on a dirt road, deep in the wilderness, with nothing but silence and sky outside.
That effortless comfort comes from more than just the water—it’s the design behind it.

Our advanced water recycling shower system is designed to significantly reduce water usage while delivering a truly luxurious experience. Building a closed-loop system meant rethinking how hot water is supplied. Traditional RV water heaters couldn’t keep up. They need high flow rates to activate. They take time to heat up. They waste water before they work.
Subpar performance is not our standard.
What we needed was a system that could deliver instant, consistent warmth—even at low flow—with the kind of quiet efficiency that fits perfectly in an all-electric lifestyle. That led us to a radiant hydronic boiler engineered with a built-in 10-liter hot water reserve. It heats fast, recovers quickly, and stays ready—whether you’re rinsing off, washing dishes, or prepping for the day.

But the real magic is in how it’s integrated. The boiler is located in a dedicated utility room situated just behind the shower wall. With only inches of pipe between the heat source and the fixture, hot water arrives instantly—no long waits, no waste. You’re letting gallons of precious freshwater go wasted cold while warming up the line. You turn it on, and it’s there.
The system runs primarily on electricity—silent, sustainable, and solar-powered—but seamlessly switches to propane in colder conditions. You never notice the handoff. You stay warm—the way it was meant to work.

What brings it all together is the combined control panel, built into every CyberTrailer. It manages both hot water and interior heating from one elegant, touchscreen interface. Whether you’re adjusting cabin temperatures or setting shower preferences, it’s all right there—intelligent, intuitive, and beautifully simple.
This control system does more than toggle settings. It syncs every thermal and hydronic system in the trailer to your lifestyle: when you’re conserving energy, when you’re relying on stored power, or when you’re off-grid for weeks at a time. It learns, it adapts, and most importantly—it stays out of your way.
With the closed-loop shower system dramatically reducing water use, and the onboard atmospheric water generator replacing what little is lost, this hot water technology completes the picture. One system flows into the next—an intelligent network built around the way we actually live.
The result? A seamless experience that feels effortless, even in the most remote environments.
Tomorrow, we’ll explore how these systems perform in real-world extremes—from subzero nights in remote, frigid places such as the High Sierra or the Rockies to the searing desert heat of Death Valley or Joshua Tree. But for now, step into the water and feel everything… work.
