Homes that make their own power, since 2017.
A builder of off-grid homes
Living Vehicle is a California builder of off-grid luxury travel trailers. Since 2017 we have designed, engineered and built every one of them ourselves: homes on wheels that make their own power and let people live well anywhere, from the coast to the high desert.
A family idea

Living Vehicle grew out of a family idea. Matthew Hofmann, a licensed architect who had lived full-time on the road, and his father, Walter “Wally” Hofmann, a construction and business professional, have been part of Living Vehicle since the first trailer in 2017. They still bring that same hands-on approach to every trailer we build.
What makes a Living Vehicle

A Living Vehicle makes its own power: solar on the roof, a large battery at the heart of the home, and the systems to run it all off the grid. It is comfortable in every season, with heating, cooling and insulation built for winter in the mountains and summer in the desert. And it is built to last, with a metal frame, an aluminum skin and an interior designed like a house, with big windows, real materials and rooms that change through the day.
A track record
Four generations of Living Vehicles have followed since 2017, each one taking off-grid living further. More than 130 trailers have been delivered, owners across the country now live, work and travel in them, and they rate us 4.9★ on Google. Along the way the trailers have won design and travel awards, from Robb Report to the Rethinking the Future Awards.
Where we're going
Everything four generations taught us now goes into one line, built to one standard so it can be built, and serviced, better than ever: the LV Line. They'll be available for in-person tours and showings in early 2027.
