The Living Vehicle 2024 HD30 is the Future House Awards 2023 Winner in the Sustainable Design Category
The Future House 2023 Award showcases the best and most outstanding new examples of residence created by some of the most renown international architects and their clients worldwide. The program recognizes excellence in architecture and urbanism from a global point of view.
“From a shed to a penthouse”—the vision is to present inclusive and pioneering architectural projects that define the present and shape the future of residential design globally. The award program seeks to define the New Domestic Landscape with the best and most innovative cutting-edge designs for residential architecture.
A jury of recognized architecture and design practitioners, business professionals, educators, and critics review the submissions and select winning projects for awards.
Matthew Hofmann’s Living Vehicle trailers aren’t just for a weekend in the woods; they’re for actually living there. The chrome, shoe box-shaped trailer offers everything you would want from a New York apartment, with basically the same square footage. The former architect’s trailers have it all—outsized windows, a skylight, spa-style bathroom, washing machine and a roof-top solar system allowing for off-the-grid living. And because everyone’s idea of what makes the perfect home is their own, each unit is fully customizable.
The Travel Awards focus on five categories: Where to Go, Where to Stay, What to Do, Where to Eat & Drink, and How to Get There. The awards are open to businesses and institutions across the 13 Western states. Winners are determined by Sunset editors and a travel advisory board of trusted experts and writers. Founded in 1898, Sunset Magazine has long covered all aspects of life in the Western United States, focusing on travel, food & drink, home design, and gardening.
The Skift IDEA Awards celebrate the big ideas defining the future of travel. The awards honor inspiring work from brands, agencies, and tech providers transforming the industry and the traveler experience through purpose-driven design, innovation, and creativity. Judges include renowned design and business leaders from some of the world’s most innovative companies, along with Skift’s editors and industry experts.
The Rethinking The Future Awards are given to projects showcasing excellence and innovation in architecture & design. In 2021, over 1400 registrations were received from more than 50 countries, spanning architecture, landscaping, urban design, product design, and interior design categories.
Select the desired equipment to estimate the off-grid run time and compare Living Vehicle models. Solar power is based on an average of 5 hours of full sun per day.
*Calculations are estimates based on average appliance usage and best practices in extending stored energy. Assumptions include 90-deg F continuous temperature, washer/dishwasher use spread throughout the week, and very high GHI solar conditions (https://www.nrel.gov/gis/solar.html). This calculator is intended as a helpful resource to understand the impact of appliance use and solar charging on runtimes only. These calculations are not a guarantee of performance of our energy system as there are too many variables in usage of the system and weather/environmental conditions to predict or assure any results.
