Day 1: How We Solved the Off-Grid Water Problem
By Matthew Hofmann, Founder & Architect, Living Vehicle
There’s a moment that every off-grid traveler knows all too well.
You’ve just finished a long hike, or maybe you’re rolling into camp after hours behind the wheel. You’re dusty and tired, and the one thing you want most is a long, hot, luxury hotel-style shower. But instead of reaching for the handle, you hesitate—and glance at the freshwater gauge. You know how fast that tank empties. And you know that once it’s gone, you’re either packing up early or giving up your comfort until you’re able to resupply.
After all, a standard RV shower uses about 2 gallons of water per minute. That means a mere 5-minute shower would use up about 20% of a 50-gallon fresh water tank. And this is not considering your partner and their love for long, loooooong showers.
That’s one of the many problems we set out to solve with the CyberTrailer PRO.
At Living Vehicle, we’ve spent years obsessing over off-grid independence: energy, air, mobility—all of it. However, water has always been the biggest, most significant constraint – and the biggest challenge too. At 8 pounds a gallon, water’s heavy. It’s also finite. When you need it, you usually need a lot. And until now, it’s the one thing that’s kept even the best off-grid rigs tethered to resupply points.
The Water Recycling System by Orbital Systems changes all that.

Shower Like You’re Home—Even 100 Miles Away!
We designed the CyberTrailer’s shower to feel like a five-star experience. It’s a full-size, sealed wet room featuring a luxury rainfall shower head, radiant floor heating, and thermostatic temperature control. It feels indulgent—because it is. But here’s the twist: while you’re standing under that cascade of hot water, you’re using only a fraction of what you’d expect.
With closed-loop filtration technology, we capture, purify, and reuse up to 90% of the water in real-time. Every drop that hits the floor is instantly analyzed. Reusable water is then filtered, sterilized with UV-C light, reheated, and returned to the shower stream. You get high-flow luxury—without high-volume waste. Too good to be true? Wait until you read this: the longer the shower, the more water you save: with a 15 minute shower, you save ca. 90% of the water you are using.

You can even access integrated “Earth, Moon, and Mars” conservation modes, giving you control over how aggressively the recycling system behaves, depending on your location and the amount of water onboard.

Why This Matters
This isn’t just about comfort. It’s about freedom.
With the CyberTrailer shower by Orbital Systems, you no longer have to choose between staying clean and staying off-grid. You can shower every day—even twice a day—without worrying about draining your freshwater tank. We’ve reduced a massive point of resource stress into something simple, beautiful, and intelligent.
And we didn’t stop there. All of this data is tracked in real-time and monitored from your phone.

What If You Didn’t Even Need to Fill Your Freshwater Tank?
Here’s where things get even more interesting—and it’s something we’ll dive into tomorrow.
The CyberTrailer PRO is equipped with an Atmospheric Water Generator—a system that literally pulls water from the air and stores it in your tank. Up to 9 gallons a day. No hookups. No wells. No need to haul water jugs or find a faucet.
Now, combine that with the Orbital Shower’s 90% recycling rate, and you start to see how this becomes more than just a trailer. It’s a self-sustaining water ecosystem. You’re not just extending your trip—you’re redefining how long you can live off the freshwater grid.
But more on that in the next post.

This is Day 1 in our 20-day series of posts that will explore the innovations behind the CyberTrailer PRO. Every feature has been designed to work in harmony with the next—creating a fully integrated, intelligent, and luxurious off-grid experience.
Stay with us as we continue the story. We’ll explore how water generation is no longer science fiction—because things as basic as fresh water are about to get very, very real.
